Book 1/12 for 2020!

Coming at you a bit late with the first book review of the year! It’s quite a large book and it took me a while to read especially as I’m just getting back into reading… 📚

If you read my new year’s resolutions blog post, you’ll know one of them is to read a book a month. January’s book and the first book of the year is Jojo Moyes – Still me.

I picked this book up from a charity shop for £1 with it still being full price in book shops! I would highly recommend looking in charity shops for books before buying new; most of the time the newest books get taken to the charity shop because people read them once then give them away.

Another great place to buy second hand books from is Worldofbooks. You can search for an author or the book your looking for, and you’ll normally find exactly what you want for the fraction of the price!

I immediately liked the sound of this book, I also find I enjoy a book more if it’s written in first person which this one is. It is about a young woman Louisa Clark leaving the UK behind and everything she has there, to work for the wealthy Gopnik family in the heart of New York City and hopefully find herself in the process.

Follow Louisa through the ups and downs of what moving across the Atlantic meant for her, her relationships back home and the new people she meets along the way!

‘You always have one foot in two places. You can never be truly happy because, from the moment you leave, you are two selves, and wherever you are one half of you is always calling to the other.’ – Still Me 🐝

I have not read any of Jojo Moyes books and did not realise that this book continues from her other novel ‘me before you’. Although I don’t think you need to read any previous books to enjoy this one, I think it would make you feel more invested in Louisa’s journey as a character and give you more context on the overall story.

I really related to Louisa in some parts of the book which is always good as the reader but found myself becoming slightly bored with the story line in the first half or so but it definitely gets better and I ended up really enjoying it. I love a happy ending and really glad this book had that which left me smiling. I am sure I will read more from Jojo Moyes.

My star rating for this book: 3.5/5

What book are you reading at the moment? Let me know in the comments! I need some good recommendations please.. 🙏

Look out for February’s book review!

  3. I read the first book in this series, and I felt so meh about it. I don’t know what it is about her writing, but it doesn’t grip me straight away!

    My recommendations:
    // David Nicholls – Us
    // Jodi Picoult – A Spark of Light
    // Lucy Foley – The Hunting Party
